Because there are many different types of headaches and many possible factors involved, an assessment can help build a clearer picture of what you’re experiencing.

Looking at Possible Factors

Some headaches may occur alongside neck tension, changes in movement through the neck or upper back, or prolonged postures. Other factors, including screen use, stress, hydration, and sleep habits, may also be relevant depending on the person.

Rather than assuming there is one cause, your chiropractor can look at your symptoms, history, and examination findings together.

Not All Headaches Feel the Same

Headaches can vary considerably in where they are felt and how they present. Tension-type headaches are commonly described as pressure or tightness around the head. Cervicogenic headaches are associated with the neck and may be felt at the back of the head or travel forward. Migraines can involve throbbing pain and may occur with symptoms such as light sensitivity or nausea.

If your headache symptoms are new, severe, unusual, or changing, medical assessment may also be needed.

Assessing Your Headaches

At Hamilton Chiropractic Centre, your chiropractor begins with a neurological and postural examination, along with a review of your symptoms and health history. This helps identify findings that may be relevant to your presentation and whether chiropractic care may be suitable.

Where appropriate, gentle chiropractic techniques may form part of an individual care plan based on your examination findings.
