Your nervous system controls and regulates everything else in the body. It’s made up of the brain and spinal cord, protected by the skull and the spine that act as an armour. Your spine should be mobile, but injury, stress, medication or other lifestyle factors can create dysfunction or interference in the nervous system.

The result is that your innate healing abilities are compromised. Chiropractor Dr Ian Kim provides gentle spinal corrects, removing any areas of dysfunction so that the nervous system can operate optimally.

What are the costs? Is Chiropractic covered by ACC or my private health insurance?

Chiropractic is covered by ACC. If you have an existing ACC claim or would like to start a new claim we can determine the validity and acceptability of the claim for you. Please see our fee schedule. Your health insurance company may cover the cost. The amount covered depends on the type of cover you have, please check with your private health insurance provider.

Do I need a referral from my GP to see a chiropractor?

Not at all. You are free to see a chiropractor on your own accord. Even though many GPs will refer you for a chiropractic visit, as a primary health care provider a chiropractor will work with you without a referral.

I have never been to a chiropractor before, what should I expect?

Prior to your first visit we request you fill out our new patient form. On your first visit you will meet Dr. Ian to discuss your health concerns. Dr. Ian will guide you through a comprehensive neurological, orthopedic, postural and chiropractic examination to help diagnose your concerns. You may be referred for x-rays if necessary. If it is determined you are a good candidate for chiropractic care, you will be adjusted on your first visit. Dr. Ian will explain your condition, how chiropractic can help, and discuss treatment options with you on your second visit.

Do you see pregnant women or children?

Yes, we see patients at all ages and stages from pregnancy and babies right through the elderly. Chiropractic care is catered to suit the individual needs, meaning we can safely care for people in all walks of life.

What is the popping sound from my spine?

The cavitation may be heard for some individuals, when an adjustment is made to their spines. The sound is simply the escape of gasses from in between the joints of vertebrae in the spine. The sound is no different to the sound from fingers or knees. Dr. Ian uses a variety of chiropractic techniques to help you. If the sound bothers you, Dr. Ian can modify treatment, without compromising your care.

How many adjustments will I need?

It depends on your concern, the severity and the duration, and your goals. Dr. Ian will cater a treatment plan tailored to you based on your history, examination results and your requirement.

Considering Your Needs and Preferences

We’ll evaluate your condition using several forms of testing including thermography and surface electromyography. Many chronic issues are related to poor posture, which is why Dr Ian uses ABC Technique and Chiropractic BioPhysics®. Additionally, he provides Diversified, Thompson, Toggle Recoil and Gonstead techniques. If you prefer a non-manual adjustment, the Activator® and ArthroStim® instruments are also available.
